Paper Cutting Workshops

Are you looking to explore your artistic side and develop a new practical skill?

Then paper cutting is for you.

This workshop is ideal for beginners who are interested in learning the basics of paper cutting. Paper cutting is a fast growing trend and a great way of creating designs to brighten up your home, create decorations for special occasions such as Christmas and Weddings, or make personal gifts for friends and family.

During this three hour workshop you will learn how to use a scalpol knife to cut intricate designs from existing templates. You will learn various techniques which I’ll talk you through step by step, and will be encouraged to experiment with colours and textures using a selection of papers to create your piece. You will create your own artwork which you can then take home with you. Your work can then be mounted into a frame and given as a present, or displayed in your own home. You will also learn how to create your own designs for future artworks.

All materials will be provided and you will get to go home with one small but wonderful artwork ready to frame and hang on your wall. Classes are limited so please be quick if you would like to book. Tea and cake will be provided.

I’ve been a papercutter for 7 years, she has been published in several books about Paper Cutting and did several paper illustration for publications. She is an illustrator and graphic designer, papercutter and very experienced teacher, excited to pass on these skills to other makers.

Newham Carnival 2017

I was approached by Emergency Exit Arts, a community-focused arts group, to participate in a project alongside several other artists. Our mission was to create and deliver ideas for the Newham Carnival 2017. We spent a couple of days designing the main features and preparing the materials we would need to deliver the workshops. Having developed our ideas, throughout June we visited primary schools across the borough to help children bring alive our designs for the Carnival.  We worked in different groups with specific designs relating to Rio, New Orleans, Venice, and Trinidad & Tobago. Each team had different colours,  schemes and themes. The children we met with were from a range of backgrounds, each bringing different ideas to the workshops. It was brilliant to see the range of cultural references in the designs.

This project gave me great experience of working at scale, using a range of different materials, such as plastic, card and paper mache. I helped with one of the floats working on a crown for a massive king’s head. I also developed my ability to work with a diverse group of young people and inspire them to explore their creativity.

Roehampton Lounge – Workshop with EEA

I worked on a series of paper cut workshops with Emergency Exit Arts at the Alton Towers in Roehampton. We finished this week of art with a massive event involving several artists, called The Lounge. For this, artists worked in collaboration with residents of the Alton Estate to transform the space into an outdoor sitting room. Visitors then had the opportunity to participate in different activities at different stations around to space, as well as some sofas they could use to relax, and to enjoy the environment. The day finished with a Fire Garden and spectacular fireworks display, accompanied by a screening of the slow motion animation that we created with the children at the Library workshops.
